If the fighter ends up alone in his category (Belt, Age, Weight). Our organization will get in touch with the athlete coach to consult him/her on merging the athlete into a different bracket according to the following sequence:
1- Higher Weight
2- Higher Age
3- Higher Belt (Only Applicable to Kids' Divisions and Competitions)
Note: Any above merging scenarios will only occur once we get approval from the athlete (for adults) or the parents (for kids).
1. Our competition format follows IBJJF single elimination bracket for four competitors and above.
2. For brackets that end up with three competitors, we will follow single elimination with the first loser gets a second chance.
3. For brackets that end up with two competitors, we will follow a single elimination format.
4. For brackets that end up with one competitor, we will contact the fighter to suggest a merge with another bracket, mostly the higher weight division, or a younger entry if a higher weight is unavailable. If the competitor rejects the suggestion to be merged, we will follow IBJJF standard practice to award him the medal with no fight, but team points will not be awarded in this case.
Note: Ending alone in the division doesn't grant you any refund; our organization has a NO refund policy.
GI & NO GI TOURNAMENT
Just before his/her first fight, the athlete will check his/her weight with the Gi. No advance weight in will be allowed, Weigh in will be allowed only 30 minutes before the fight schedule.
Note: Weigh in will be called according to the order of the fights. Please don't come too early if your fight is late.
Example: Adult white belt division starts at 5:00 PM; please don't come at 10:00 AM to weigh in; the 10:00 AM weight-in slot is prioritized for those fighting at 10:30 AM.
However, weigh in will be called by our registration/weigh in counter and following a specific order, and it won't be accepting random check-in. There is only one opportunity to check the weight. If the competitor does not make his/her weight, they will be disqualified immediately. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight division. You cannot change divisions if you do not make your designated division. No changes will be accepted on the day of the Tournament, no refund.
Please check the official weight measurement used in tournament.
All athletes should fight and weigh-in with the attire following their respective division (Gi or No Gi).
All athletes' uniforms should respect IBJJF uniform standards in Gi and No Gi. Any athlete who doesn't have the required attire according to IBJJF's standard will be disqualified immediately. Hence please read the section above for Uniforms carefully.
To be safe, you may consider purchasing our BJJ Roots gears that follow IBJJF standards at the following link.

- Brackets of 3 fighters. each fighter will get 2 fights.
- Brackets of 4 fighters, each fighter will get 3 fights.
- Brackets of 5 fighters and above, each fighter will get 4 fights as max.
Tiebreaker for round robin:
Head to head --> Number of wins by submission --> Sum of all matches points --> Fastest submission (in seconds) --> Sum of all opponents score (lower is better)
Please note that our match scheduling is generated automatically through the Smoothcomp system and is not manually created. The only setting we can control in the schedule is the fighter rest time (per fight and not per minute). If you notice any of the issues, please refer to the following:
- Two fighters from the same gym facing each other in the first round. Note: This is unintentional and purely accidental. If you spot this issue, please contact us at +60 14-719 0208 or email info@bjjroots.co once the schedule is released so we can make the necessary adjustments.
- A fighter is scheduled for two matches at the same time. Note: This is also an accidental occurrence. If you encounter this issue, please reach out to us at the contact details above for correction.
- Insufficient rest time between fights. Note: The system allows us to set rest time per fight, not per minute. For example, if you are scheduled for Fight #2 and Fight #4, you are expected to rest during Fight #3 (approximately 4–5 minutes, depending on its duration). However, if Fight #3 ends early due to a submission, disqualification, or no-show, the system will call Fight #4 sooner than expected. In such cases, please communicate with your coach, scoreboard official, or referee verbally to ensure you get the necessary rest time.
We want to emphasize that these issues are unintentional and must be addressed manually when they arise. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
- All fighters must present their ID (passport copy, driving license, PR IC, IC) to verify their Smoothcomp entered date of birth.
- Any other document such as (library card, student card ... etc) will be rejected, only government official IDs are accepted.
- Failure to provide an official ID or any discrepancy between the presented ID and the registered date of birth will result in immediate disqualification.
